We are in grave danger of losing our moral authority, our standing in the world, and our very democracy.
For 248 years we have elected men who willingly gave up power, starting with the extraordinary action of George Washington, whom many would have crowned king. John Adams followed suit, and every man since. Never once has a president passed out images of himself in monarchical garb, until now. We cannot allow that to happen.
Instead of focusing on crumbling infrastructure, ballooning national debt, the rise of authoritarian regimes, and a looming World War, we are concerned with legislating the personal lives of Americans, their gender, their sexual orientation. Instead of ensuring that we lead the world in education, we are concerned with banning books that a few people don’t agree with. Instead of ensuring that we are the world leaders in science and technology, disease research and providing healthy foods and vaccines to our children, and ensuring the continued dominance of the United States in these areas, we are concerned with paying back campaign promises to powerful, yet wholly unqualified conspiracy theorists.
Last night, the House passed a budget bill cutting 2 TRILLION dollars in funding for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and other programs that Americans rely upon. What are they doing with this HUGE amount of money? Paying down the deficit? No, it’s going for tax cuts. Since Reagan, the Republicans have subscribed to trickle down economics. Since then, we have lost programs, we are no longer the leaders in education, science, math, medicine, research and technology. We are no longer a nation of innovators and producers. We are a nation of consumers. We are FAILING. Our government is failing us. Reagan slashed education budgets. Do you think that was an accident? No, it was to make us all dumb, so we don’t realize what they’re doing. He removed the Fairness Doctrine, allowing for the rise of cable news, where you can spoon fed propaganda by corporate media, interested only in ratings and profit, not the truth. His cuts, and the subsequent cuts have created a nation of people incapable of discerning truth from manipulation.
Just today, Texas has reported the first death from a measles outbreak. It’s 2025. Measles has been vaccinated against since before I was born. How is this happening?
